Residential/Apartment Complex, Chicago- Snow Melt

Installed approximately 600 square feet of snow melt in a six-unit apartment complex’s sidewalk area on either side of building.  Used existing 500,000 BTU cast iron boiler (for six unit baseboard system) by adding additional pump, brazed plate heat exchanger, snow melt pump and Tekmar full automatic control system.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Residential – Lincoln Park, IL

Retro fit, two story graystone apartment building

Challenge:  Design efficient and affordable system to replace 40 year old,  single 400,000 BTU cast iron boiler serving two separate units, utilizing 9 cast iron radiators per apartment.

Solution:  Removed existing unit and installed additional gas meter and piping. After heat loss calculations, installed two separate 140,000 BTU cast iron boilers. Removed all existing 2” and 3” horizontal piping in basement area and installed 5/8” P.A.P. Home Run system. Separate supply and return line to each individual radiators and installed one manifold for each floor. Gave owner option for future to install thermostatic radiator valves on each radiator, smart pumps and 60 gal indirect boilers for additional savings.

Advantages:  50% reduction in gas utility bills and gained considerable head room in basement by removing low hanging original gravity supply pipes.

New Construction, Single Family Home, Warmboard ®

Approx. 2200 sq. ft., New Construction, single family home

Using Warmboard ® and in-slab radiant for basement. Multiple zones. House insulated with Open cell spray foam

Boiler:  Triangle Tube 110 and 80 gal Smart Tank for domestic hot water. Tekmar thermostats with slab sensors to protect Cherry hardwood floors. Outdoor reset enabled.

Air Conditioning:  Space Pak high velocity cooling system with 4 ton compressor.

Boiler:  NTI Trinity 60,000

Insulation:  2” Ridgid foam Crete-Heat

System:  Four (4) zones with Honeywell controller and slab sensing thermostats, Caleffi 8 loop manifold with motorized valve actuators controlling individual loops

System designed with outdoor reset and warm weather shutdown and zone synchronization to maximize efficiency.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Residential – Haywood, WI

Design temp:  -30 degrees

Approx. 1700 sq. ft. slab on grade rural residence with heated attached garage

Boiler:   Triangle Tube Challenger Boiler. High efficiency space heating and domestic hot water

Challenge:  Design and build a high efficiency heating system for use in a remote location and extreme weather conditions allowing for multiple heat sources to work in tandem (propane, solar, electric, and wood burning stove to be installed at a later date)

Solution:  A Tisun (Lochinvar) 250 gal tank with an internal stainless steel coil for domestic hot water production and a solar side arm coil to allow for solar heat and domestic hot water production was installed. The tank acts as a thermal accumulator allowing for multiple heat source inputs and as large buffer tank for our four (4) zones of heat through the Caleffi manifold, as well as domestic hot water through an internal coil and supplemented by the Triangle Tube challenger boiler.
